Last night, David went out to a bar to watch one of his musician friends perform. I knew this would be a challenge for him. How fun is it to hang out in a bar when you're not throwing back a couple? So I wasn't too surprised when half-way through the evening David texted me to tell me that one of his friends made him have a drink. I responded to tell him it was okay but not to drink anymore. At the same time, I gloated over David's lack of will power and felt quite superior in my ability to stay on target with the cleanse.
We're the kind of couple that competes at most things without necessarily knowing it. For instance, we took a break from our Sunday afternoon Scrabble tournaments because of the undue stress it caused. Who will spell the word with most points? Who will spell the longest word? Who will spell the most creative word? Who will end up with letter "X" or "Q" or "Z"? Is the word "Qi" in Webster's? Will I draw a blank tile? Is there a word with 5 consonants and 1 vowel? How many words can I create by adding 1 tile to the board? These are the types of questions racing through the mind of a competitive Scrabble player. David and I challenged each others words with heated debate and argued over game rules. A stop had to be put to our irksome boardgame behavior or we were headed for couples counseling.
"Beating" David in the cleanse challenge was starting to puff me up, and I looked forward to needling him about it. My bubble of pride was popped 5 minutes later when David texted me again with "Syke!". He had stuck to his guns afterall and drank 6 glasses of water while he enjoyed listening to his friend's band. Six glasses of water? That's more H2O than I drank last night. Is he doing better than me....?
Today's Menu:
Breakfast: Bowl of fruit (mango, strawberry, banana, grapes) and sprouted grain toast with coconut oil. Pero to drink.
Snack: Smoothie made with unsweetened soy milk, banana and Amazing Meals vegan protein pack
Lunch: David requested Amy's Curried Lentil Soup again. It was paired with a salad of spring mix, carrot, celery, grape tomatoes, avocado, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and Goddess dressing.
Dinner: We splurged and went to Cafe Sunflower for our first restaurant meal this week. Cafe Sunflower is an all vegetarian restaurant, and many of the items are vegan. I started with vegan cauliflower soup and a green salad.
My main course was Spicy Pad Thai Noodles made with rice noodles, oyster mushrooms, red bell peppers, baby corn, tofu, kale and spicy coconut peanut sauce.
David's entree was Veggie Loaf, a soy veggie loaf with rosemary mashed potatoes and tomato fennel sauce. This came with a side of seasonal veggies.
Even though both of our meals were completely vegan, there was some wheat content due to the soy products used.
Cafe Sunflower has 2 locations in Buckhead and Sandy Springs. You'll find a complete menu for each of these locations at www. cafesunflower.com.
