It all starts with an idea.

My husband, David, asked me last week, "I wonder if I could do a cleanse for 21 days?" I think the question was meant to be rhetorical, but I replied by asking for more details. He said it would be a cleanse that required abstinence from eating meat. Well, this certainly peeked my interest since David is a bona fide meat eater.

Later, I learned that David got his idea for the cleanse while watching an episode of Dr. Oz. The show had a segment regarding alternative medicine and featured some of the most popular experts in this field. One of the guests was Kathy Freston who wrote The Quantum Wellness Cleanse. She talked about cutting out the "Big Five" for 21 days. David now wishes he hadn't recorded the show; because I bought the book, and I'm ready to get started.

I convinced David that now is the perfect time to try the 21 day cleanse since we aren't traveling this month. Kathy Freston recommends keeping a journal of everything you eat for 3 days prior to starting this cleanse. David and I decided to skip this part and dive right into the lifestyle change.

Last night as we were lying in bed watching the Academy Awards, David firmly reminded me not to get my hopes up about this cleanse. I believe his exact words were,"I'll never be a vegetarian or vegan. I like steak and burgers and chicken..." My first thought was, "Uh-oh. This isn't going to be worth it if David's going to complain for 21 days." I ultimately told myself that I should do this for me and encourage David along for the next 3 weeks. I'm positive that we'll both feel better by the end of this vegan adventure.

Here's to becoming shiny, happy people at the end of the next 21 days.
